Mr. Kevin Marquina
Mr. Kevin Marquina received his BA from the University of Miami where he studied secondary education, political science, philosophy, Spanish language, and theatre production. Following the completion of his undergraduate degree, he became certified in teaching 6-12 grade Social Sciences and joined Somerset Academy Silver Palms in Homestead, FL. He received the Teacher of the Year award from Somerset in 2016, and has participated in the AP US History Exam Reading in the summers of 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019.

Mr. Marquina received his MA in Latin American Studies from Florida International University. As part of this program, Mr. Marquina covered topics in social theory, political theory, Latin American history, international relations, political science, and economics. His Master’s research project involved engaging with the dynamics of nationalism in the Cuban diaspora. He was also part of an interview project for FIU seeking to preserve personal testimonies of the Bay of Pigs invasion by the members of Brigade 2506.

In previous years, Mr. Marquina has taught Civics, World History, US History, AP US History, Philosophy, and Ethics. This will be Mr. Marquina’s first year in Doral Academy.
