Mrs. Catherine Kononoff
A veteran teacher, Mrs. Kononoff holds a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications, a Master's in English Education, the Florida Reading Endorsement, and is Master Journalist Qualified by the National Scholastic Press Association. She was selected Doral Academy Preparatory's Teacher of the Year for 2010 and was previously nominated for University of Miami Outstanding High School Teacher. In 2007, Mrs. Kononoff was one of seven teachers in the United States awarded the Jones New York in the Classroom Award.
She has taught a variety of courses in the Language Arts and Reading curriculum, and produced a Silver Knight winner in the Journalism category during her second year of teaching. Having advised multiple yearbooks and newspapers that received critical acclaim, Mrs. Kononoff has served several times as the writing judge for the Florida Scholastic Press Association and the National Scholastic Press Association.
A graduate of the Miami Jewelry School, she holds a certificate in basic fine jewelry, and has studied under Master Jewelers Marc Thurn and Charles Lewston-Brain, Sam Patania, Carol Webb, and Ronda Coryell and Maureen Shankey, among others. She is PMC Level 2 certified and is treasurer of Florida Society of Goldsmiths South chapter
Currently she advises the Eye of the Phoenix Yearbook and the Phoenix Newspaper here at Doral Academy where she also teaches Journalism and Literature in The Arts: The Film ( a study of the evolution of film). She is also the co-sponsor of Quill and Scroll Journalism Honor Society and is active in community volunteerism.
