Ms. Cassandra Montenegro
Born and raised in South Florida, Ms. Montenegro moved to Massachusetts in 2002 to attend Williams College, where she braved the cold weather and received her Bachelor of Arts degrees in Art History and Spanish Literature. While at Williams, Ms. Montenegro studied abroad at the University of Salamanca in Spain.
In 2006, Ms. Montenegro moved back to the Sunshine State to attend law school at the University of Florida, Levin College of Law. While in law school she had the opportunity to study South African law at the University of Cape Town. Ms. Montenegro was awarded her Juris Doctor in 2009, was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2011, and subsequently practiced commercial transactional law in South Florida. Prior to practicing law, she taught English I and II for ESL at Ronald Reagan Senior High, an experience that awakened in her a love for teaching.
This 2019-2020 school year will mark Ms. Montenegro's sixth year at Doral Academy Preparatory, where she is excited to work with her AP Art History, AP English Language and Composition, and Honors Art History and Criticism students, and to serve as Co-Organizer of TEDxDoralAcademyPrep and as Club Leader of the TED-Ed Club, which helps coordinate and prepare speakers for the school's officially licensed, independently organized TED event. As the Adviser to the National English Honor Society "Order of the Firebirds" Chapter, Ms. Montenegro loves to support her honor society in engaging in major service projects like the College Essay Incubator at the school and partnering with the Miami Book Fair at Miami Dade College to increase literacy across the county. Ms. Montenegro also looks forward to continuing to serve as the Silver Knight Coordinator at the school, working with academically driven, service-oriented students, and their faculty mentors and parents, on major community service projects from as early as 6th grade on.
Ms. Montenegro is actively involved with the Williams College Alumni Association, the Miami Book Fair Literati Society, and with various other organizations in South Florida. Passionate about literature and art, Ms. Montenegro recognizes the power of language in a given situation, and believes the best results come from careful study and a place of love and understanding.
