Ms. Veber is entering her fifth year as a English Language Arts teacher with Miami-Dade County, holding a Florida Professional Educator’s Certificate in English (6-12). She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Florida International University with a master's degree in English Literature with a focus in Shakespearean Studies and Victorian Literature. In her own classroom, she works to instill her students with an appreciation for literature, as a means for understanding the perspectives of others and sympathizing with those like and unlike ourselves. Books are powerful tools to show us that certain feelings and experiences are universal; as William Nicholson said, “We read to know we’re not alone.” For example, you would assume that a man from over 400 years ago could not teach you anything about yourself but Shakespeare proves otherwise. One of his plays, Macbeth, can teach us about how far we would go to accomplish our goals and who we would step on along the way, the way power can change and corrupt us, and our fear of an uncertain future. By the end of the school year, Ms. Veber hopes that all of her students will feel that they are more compassionate and insightful people as a result of their relationship with reading.
